While you watch the whales swim beneath you in their underwater world you can also listen to their magical songs through a hydro phone located on board. It is a truly memorable event and one not to be missed.

World Heritage listed Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world stretching over 123 kilometres in length and 22 kilometres at its widest point. The island is among Australia's natural treasures alongside Uluru, Kakadu, and the Great Barrier Reef. Fraser Island is a significant part of Australia's natural and cultural heritage and attracts visitors from all over the world who come to admire its exceptional beauty.

Ancient rainforest growing on the island are criss-crossed with pristine streams and there are over a 100 fresh water dune lakes that are among the cleanest in the world. Fraser Island is the only place in the world where rainforests grow over 200 metres from the sand. Long white beaches run around the island with striking sections of coloured sand cliffs. Within this stunning natural setting over 350 different species of birds and various mammals such as dingos, swamp wallabies, possums, sugar gliders and flying foxes make the island there home. And dolphins and the majestic Humpback Whales are frequent visitors to the area.

Each year during winter over 1500 humpback whales migrate from Antarctic waters through South Island New Zealand to the warm waters of Hervey Bay. Humpback whales migrate up to 25,000 km a year, grow up to 16 metres in length and weigh up to 45,000 kilograms. They eat up to 1 to 8 tones of fish and krill a day during the winter and store this food in the form of fat to nourish them during the summer months. They are truly incredible animals.

Hervey Bay is the perfect location for humpback whales to stop and calve and they arrive from late July and remain until November before returning to the southern ocean. Visitors to the area have an ideal opportunity to have a close encounter with these amazing animals display spectacular acts of breaching, tail flapping and pectoral slapping. Take the opportunity to admire the humpback whale yourself on one of the many whale watch tours in Hervey Bay.
